EDITS. What can I say about edits?
Plenty. <insert long theatrical sigh>
Okay, I'm joking. I actually love this process. You might think a book just gets written and proofread a couple of times like back in English class, but that's very far from how things truly work in the world of indie publishing.
There are edits, more edits, more edits after that, then formatting, proofreading, beta testing, cover designing, arc distributing, ad creating, and more that I can't even think of right now. In fact, I have a spreadsheet for that.
But back to the updates...Edits. I'm stoked to share that my developmental editor loved the initial draft of my quirky little brother's best friend manuscript!
My favorite technical notes were that my characters and plot were well-developed, interesting, and solid in their intentions, which just makes a former theater girlie the happiest. I guess I always knew characters would be my strong point.
Pacing, though...pacing is a whole different beast.
I could tell there was something off with my pacing in a few chapters, and I couldn't quite place it, but my editor nailed it when it came time to pin-pointing certain scenes to cut or make concise. She even gave me a bit of line-editing advice to fine-tune it, and I'm thrilled with how revisions are turning out so far.
At this point, I'm halfway through applying developmental and line edits and a few weeks closer to the copy edit, formatting, and proofreading stages!
In marketing news, I'm THRILLED to share that one of my favorite author PR companies I've worked with as a reader, has agreed to manage the cover reveal and blog tour for Something Like Sunflowers. This means amazing things for my visibility and reach in the online book community, and I couldn't be more excited for what's to come with that very soon.
On that same note, the COVER for this second chance, small-town romance is absolutely stunning and the perfect addition to your bright-colored stacks and shelves! I've commissioned a one-of-a-kind, illustrated cover and promo art from a brilliant artist whose work I've admired for years, and I swear it's like they pulled the images from my brain, it's spot on for Devyn and Hunter. I can't wait to reveal it to you in all its glory very, very soon.
That's all for now, Book Lovers. If you've read this far, thank you so much for your support as I learn and grow on my journey through indie publishing.
XoXo, Elsie
